Jokinen survey results
Wednesday, October 17, 2007
Readers had a wide range of opinions on what
kind of contract Stars forward Jussi Jokinen should receive for
this coming season.
There were differing thoughts on both the length of the deal and
the money he should be paid.
When all the submissions were tabulated, the
average came out to a three-year deal worth
about $6 million or $2 million per season.
The average compensation level came out to $1.987 million
per season and the average
length of the contract was 2.87 years.
The lowest paid deal Jokinen received from a reader
was a one-year, $650,000 contract. The highest figure, not
including people who gave a high/low range, was $3.5 million
per year deal and that was for a three-year contract.
The longest deal as far as term was six-years and that was for a
total of $18.6 million dollars or $3.1 million per season.
About 52 percent of the people who responded
picked a three-year deal for Jokinen and only about 7 percent
picked a one-year deal. Twenty-five percent opted for a two-year
contract.

Stars
defense prospect Ivan Vishnevskiy had no
points for Russia in its 4-2 loss to
Canada in Game 1 of the Canada/Russia
Super Series, which was played in Ufa,
Russia Monday. Vishnevskiy saw power
play time for the Russians, playing both
the right and left point at times.

Comments
A vast majority of the people who participated in the survey did
not offer a comment, but a few did. Here is what they had to say
along with what they suggested for a contract.
| Jokinen has continued to improve on his production
at every level, he'll be the cornerstone of the youth
movement that Dallas has promised in years past. (4
years/$1.3 million per season) |
| He like our offense struggled mightily but injuries
were a part of this team but still for a team that had
50 wins and 107 points, he will need to
produce. Hopefully Mo and Mini Mo will both be healthy
for him, the team, and the fans. Thirty goals and about
sixty-five points is not out of the question in my
book. The shoot-out assassin will be back and better.
(3 years/$2.75 million per season) |
| Give him a little more money if he'll commit more
years. (4 years/$2.3 million per season) |
| Jokinen is very underrated in Dallas in his
offensive capabilities. Plus with the Weiss decision,
it is foolish to think that he's going to get less than
2.9. (Four years/$2.9 million per season) |
| Needs to produce big time. (Three years/$1.2 million
per season) |
| Best fit is as #3 center instead of #1 or #2 LW. (2
years/$1.9 million) |
| Not a dominant enough of a player to get than
$2M. I am not convinced he is that great of a player,
but I am not willing to give up on him yet. He's great
with lots of open ice and time, but that doesn't happen
too often in the game. He needs to prove he can be a
difference maker if he wants top $$$. (2 years/$1.25
million to $2 million per season) |
| Based on what a number of comparable players have
received, the Stars need to pony up. (Three years/$3.1
million per season) |
| So many assists and I still can't take his name
seriously. (Three years/$3.5 million per season) |
| Hasn't proven to be a consistent enough threat to
break the bank. (Two years/$1.8 million per season) |
| It is a risk, but at this compensation level and
years it is a compromise on both sides. More up front
money for Jussi, and for Dallas the possibility he
outplays his contract by the second or third year.
(Three years/$2.5 million per season) |
| I think the Stars organization do not have enough
scorers in their organization to risk having one of
their offensive threats sit out. (Three years/$2.2
million per season) |
| Some similar players have gotten some long term
deals close to $2.5-3M, raising what they will have to
pay Jussi. I think he will follow Morrow and raise from
16 to 20, to 25 goals in a few years, maybe even 30.
(Three years/$1.25 million per season) |
|
I would love to see him a Star again but it just
seems like there are lots of other players on this
team that are similar in statistical output. (not
counting shootouts). I would rather drop Miettinen
and keep Jokinen. (One year/$1.5 million per season)
|
| If there is a chance to sign him for the same money
as Weiss, I would do so in a heartbeat. (Six years, $3.1
million) |
| He's the last guy we need, he can stay in Finland
for all I care. To soft. I'd rather save the money and
give his ice time to Neal. Eriksson, Lindgren or even
Polak. (Compensation suggested: Bag of pucks) |
| Jussi is better and more valuable than most Stars
fans give him credit for. I've got no problem with long
term and good money for him. (Four years/$2.75 million
to $3 million per season) |
